For decades, Schmitt Music operated as a traditional full-line music retailer. Home to pianos, sheet music, ukuleles, guitars, records, organs, accessories and student band and orchestra instruments Schmitt Music was the jack of all trades.
We saw an opportunity to grow alongside Music Makers at every stage of their journey. The idea was born to inspire the next generation by providing a curated, niche shopping experience for the advanced and professional player. The idea of the Specialty Shop is an instrument-tailored place accessible to Music Makers of all levels.
In 2010, the specialty shops were born with the Sax Shop, a dedicated space for an expanded selection of pro horns. It was followed promptly by the Trumpet Shop and then the Flute Gallery in 2014. Even more key than an expanded inventory is the specialist. What good is a wide selection without someone who knows the instrument inside and out?
Each specialty shop is led by a Director of Sales, who has extensive experience in their instrument family. Several members of our DOS team hold doctoral degrees in their instrument, and all are immensely qualified as performers and members of the musical community. The Director of Sales team manages their category across all Schmitt Music locations, allowing each of our stores access to the same products and knowledge.
Our unique approach makes Schmitt Music a premier destination for Music Makers of all skill levels. From a student finding their first step-up instrument, to principal members of major symphonies, all Music Makers are treated with the same respect.
