Meet Dr. Ben Elgan
Dr. Ben Elgan is the Director of Trumpet Sales at Schmitt Music’s new Bloomington location. Dr. Elgan has spent most of his career working as a performer, educator, and as a Research Fellow for the University of Florida. A Les Paul Foundation Grant recipient, he has presented his ideas on brass instrument design and its effects on perceived sound at institutions of higher learning, as well as furthered STEAM initiatives in K-12 schools. A crossover trumpeter, his professional performance credits include performances with the Ocala Symphony and the Gainesville Orchestra, as well as in groups such as Less Than Jake, McNasty Brass Band, Sooza Brass Band, and Sister Hazel among others.
Elgan is a graduate of The University of Florida (MM, DMA in Trumpet, cognate in Mechanical Engineering), and Auburn University (Bachelors in Music). His teachers include Randy Lee, Mark DeGoti, Ken Watters, and Jody Stiles.

While we have a large selection of trumpets and mouthpieces, plan to bring your personal mouthpiece and instrument if possible. This ensures the trial and selection process will be as smooth and helpful as possible.
